The Rayment AL 5 x 4in Field Camera is quite different from the previous models in the range. Up to now Rayment Field cameras have followed a broadly traditional design and have been intended for general purpose photography. The Rayment AL is different, it has been specifically designed for use with short focus lenses. It has a 47mm rising front and back movement that will operate even at minimum extensions.It is compact, has no set up time, being always ready for use. As all movement can be positively locked it can even be preset. This makes it ideal for architectural photographers and landscape users who want to get their shot in a hurry. The camera has been designed to take a range of wide angle lenses from 47mm to 90mm focal lengths. With an extension lens board a 135mm lens can also be used. The minimum lens to film distance is approximately 112mm using a standard lens panel. The rising front movement (using for example the lens illustrated is about 47mm, even when the bellows are fully closed, the falling front movement is about 27mm under the same circumstances. The back which is of the reversing type has swings on both horizontal and vertical planes and production models will take either a metal "international" type spring back or the lighter wooden type. The camera measures overall about 230mm x 230mm x 150mm and without lens and shutter weighs about 1.60kg. It is fast to set up and does not have to be erected and the lens can be left in position. The focusing movement has a very positive locking system. Lugs for a carrying strap are provided and there is a 3/8 tripod bush under the body.
